Is the past tense of "forgo",
"forwent"?
or, "forgoed"?
Saying either of them kinda gives me the shivers anyway.

Try spelling it "forewent." You'll feel better.
AND it has the upside of being correct.
Even though "forwent" is the proper spelling, I do think it should be "forewent." Looks so much nicer, don't you think?
Yes, but it sounds wrong. Actually, if posing a question like this didn't make me feel like a word nerd already, I had the impulse to say today: Not to carp at minutiae, but you spelled 'believe' wrong.
